On The Modern Western Landscape Architecture Since The 1990's

With the development in the fields of society, economy and culture, the modern western landscape design, especially after the 1990's,is more and more taking appearance of the tendency of diversity, and accordingly, some original styles of design are coming up. Owing to the ever-complicated environment (both socially and naturally) which the landscape design needs to deal with, different design styles are tending to draw lessons from others, that is, the bounds among the different design styles is disappearing slowly.The home references which talk about the modern western landscape design are varied, but most of them are carried out either from the angle of nationality or in the order of designers, while seldom out from the angle of the designing idea. So the article, initially trying to bring readers an overall acknowledge of idea evolution of modern western landscape design, analyzes the theories and practices of modern western landscape design since the 1990's and draws an outline for the design idea of this periods, and also some universal characters of designing for the period. And finally, the author makes some suggestions on the development of contemporary Chinese landscape design.The author's introduction and analysis to the modern landscape design are carried from the angle of art, ecology, culture and technology, firstly its background information and development, then its composition forms and designing style, and finally the designing method. The author insists that, the emphasis of the four types can be listed as follows: art ideas are for the designing forms; ecology ideas are for the scientific foundation, culture ideas are for the sprit resources, and technology ideas are for the realizing means. Different landscape projects mean the difference in the project purpose and accordingly different designing emphasis. So the designer's work must base upon the exact project situation.
