Motorcycle, as a sort of convenient transportation tools, plays a very important role in human's everyday life. With the rising of people's living condition level, it calls for more needs at the appearance and shape of a motorcycle, the quality of accessories, security and power. In order to meet people's needs and become competent in this strong market competition, the manufactory factories utilities new technology continuously as well as enhances the quality of products and decreases production costs. It is a revolution to utility digital technology in motorcycle design and manufacture, especially the integration application of three-dimensional CAx(CAD\CAE\CAM,etc) tech, knowledge based engineering tech , which lead the R&D of motorcycle to reach an outstanding high level. This paper based on project of LONCIN ATV300, explains the application of digital tech in new motorcycle R&D, come up with the methods of some important and key tech and takes a vigorous reference in motorcycle R&D.This paper, firstly, introduces the industry background, features of R&D and methods in R&D section of motorcycle; analysis the current situation and developing tendency of the digital tech application in motorcycle industry, based on modeling tech such as the basic theoretics of curve and surface, and express of smooth, explains assembling tech in the way of assembling restriction. This paper explains the application of digital modeling tech in detailed, with the link of particular process of motorcycle R&D section, especially aiming at surface bend, solid of surface model, interference check and technics cooperation in accessories design of surface constitution, etc. This paper further discusses these questions, brings about new points and way to settle them down; also this paper makes a slight comparison between the advantages and disadvantages of different technologies, analysis the reasons and take out the way to solve them. This paper mentions the compensation to the bug of plastic parts, and the successful case to apply it.At last, based on the up-coming theories and methods, aiming at the detailed R&D projects of ATV300 all terrain vehicle outside cover, this paper explains the detailed application of some digital tech, such as three-dimension reverse engineering, structure, knowledge based engineering, during the R&D process of new motorcycle, and examines the design results through CNC sample vehicle.
