Study On The Emotional Design Of Modern Cemetery

Emotional and spiritual elements, which are important to human beings, have been neglected in landscape architectural planning and design nowadays. The thesis, at first, presents the concept and method of the emotional design. Then with the cemetery as the object, using the psychological theories on emotion and preceding the actual locale investigation, the thesis analyzes and compares some cases of the domestic and foreign cemeteries. There is also a study on the evolvement of emotions and their designing methods through out the development of the cemetery under the different regional and cultural background between the West and China. The emphasis is on the emotional connotations of cemetery, expression ways, and the spatial needing of special emotional characteristics. Combined with the Chinese traditional landscape design methodology, the thesis develops the general principles of emotional design of Chinese modern cemetery and the primary structure on creating a modern emotional cemetery.
