This paper firstly introduces the contents and classifications of Active Power Optimization, and then, establishes the mathematic model of classical active power optimization. Admittance matrix method and Impedance matrix method for calculating active incremental transmission losses are derived and compared in this paper. Five simplified formulas are also presented. The methods of active incremental transmission losses are applied to active power optimization. After calculated by some examples of power system, the analysis and discussions to the results verified the methods proposed in this paper. The second part of this paper aims at providing us with genetic algorithms and their applications in active power optimization. It firstly introduces the applications of Genetic algorithm; secondly, it proposes the improved Genetic algorithm based on Simulated Annealing Algorithm for solving the economic dispatch problem of power system. This proposed algorithm could enhance the optimization capability of genetic algorithm. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient than the traditional algorithms.
