The Research On How To Construct A Sittable City

Nowadays, with the fast development of modern industry, the ignorance of"people"in city construction has reached the very dangerous borderline. The issue of where could we find a place to"sit"has become a pressing realistic question we should resolve as soon as possible. Based on the principle of"people-oriented", this paper discusses the issue of how to construct a"sittable city".This paper firstly puts forward the concept of"sittable city"according to the realistic requirement, and then makes a deep investigation with the status quo of"places for sitting and resting"in cities of our country. By analyzing people's behavioral and psychological cognition and their behavioral characteristics about"places for sitting and resting"from the angle of environmental psychology, this paper educes the basic orienting and designing principle of"places for sitting and resting". As to the methodology, this paper expatiates the construction of the"sittable city"from aspects of macro management and planning of city construction to micro environmental design of"places for sitting and resting".The appetence of human, the tendency of leisure, the requirement of communication and the realistic difficulties make it a realistic necessity of constructing the"sittable city". A sittable city is a city in which people can sit down, have a rest, communicate with each other and enjoy their lives. Obviously, a sittable city must be an attractive city. Every city should set up a department looking to the public life of its residents, should consider"public places for sitting and resting"in its city planning, and should connect walking avenues with the squares of the city so as to make them a systemic one. In addition, we should pay more attention to the psychological characteristics of modern people, analyze their behavioral rules and specialties, and take appropriate measures to make sure the public places for sitting and resting adapt to the needs of people.This study will be beneficial in raising people's attentions on the quality of public life in cities and the construction of relevant material environment, and it tries to provide some possible designing methods and regulations about the planning and designing of public places for sitting and resting in cities, which has a relatively important realistic meaning for recovering the energetic city life during the construction of a city.
