Automobile as a crystal of highly developed material and spiritual contemporary human society coheres the most advanced technologies and most human perfect craft, and carries the most heated of human dreams and passions.Auto industry has become one of the largest industries in the world across countries, across industries, across cultures and become one indispensable chapter of modern social civilization. China's automobile industry development already have 50 years of history, but traps in a very embarrassing position——state-owned automobile enterprises invest huge recourses without any core technology of automobile manufacture in 20 years. The theory of car styling lacks very much, and a little experience of car styling lags far behind developed Occident countries.Based on the above cognition, this thesis processes from products semantics combining the history of the car-styling development, and do a research on series problems of the modal semantic and styling ways of automobile. And it would be dissertated in the following parts.The first part, through a comprehensive understanding and concluding to the basic principles and applying methods of product semantic, the thesis brings forward a new argument on the basis of the research of predecessors which is that the semantic information of product modality are constituted by cognitive semantics, emotional semantic and symbolic semantic. And has carried on the analysis and research to the each essential factor of product's semantic.The second part, Mainly has studied the product semantics utilization principle and the concrete design procedure, and has separately established the shape, color and material semantics warehouse according to the product semantics styling factors, which provided a new creativity way and method for the design work in future.The third part, First has analyzed the nature and the characteristic of car-styling, then , analyze the development of car-styling focusing on the research of what influence science and technology developing, society and culture changing make to the modality of car styling. This content is the basis for car styling methods. At last, make an anticipation with integrating relevant literature to how car styling would develop in the face of environment of science and technology advancing rapidly under the information age.
