The study on Hongcun ancient village of the World Cultural Heritage, depending on the historical materials and locale research, investigates the space evolvement(lognitudinal analyse) and actuality space form (transverse analyse) of Hongcun ancient village. The space evolvement include the beginning phase, the development phase, the climax phase, the decline phase and the re-development phase. The actuality space form include the construction space, the street and alley space and the whole space.Basing on the study above, this paper analyses the space form of Hongcun ancient village from the different views of"leading factors from above to below"and"self-organization process from below to above". The study of"leading factors from above to below"begins with the compare of the space evolvement of Hongcun ancient village and the evolvement of economy, polity, geography, culture and construction technique. In succession, the study analyses the space form of Hongcun ancient village from four layers: the whole space of the village, the interior space of the village, the apce of block and the space of house. The study of"self-organization process from below to above"begins with the analysis of the inhabitation element that composes the plane and interface of four sorts of building unit. In succession, with the building unit the study analyses the space composing pattern of the house, the block, the inerior village and the whole village.Through all the analysis above, this paper sums up the different leading factors that influence the space evolvement and diffferent space layers of Hongcun ancient village, and generalizes the embodiment of characteristic about the plane and interface of building unit in four spce layers of the village.
