The trend of manufacturing system is to be managed as manufacturing cells. Flexible Manufacturing System is a main form in manufacturing cell. Control system is the core of FMS and it is has very important effect on the performance of FMS. Cell controller for agile manufacturing must be reusable and extensible. Tranditional cell controllers were developed for given manufacturing system and can't fit the quickly change of system structure and product. It's very important to design a FMS cell controller which can fit agile manufacturing and contains functions as model, simulation, scheduling and control.In this dissertation, the function and architecture is analyzed for the cell controller according to the hierarchical structure. Based on the object-oriented technology, the object-oriented Petri net (OPN) is modeled for FMS, which extends the system structure from equipment level to cell level. The OPN model is extended to a run-time controlled OPN by adding system scheduling, equipment supervision and control. The core software of OPN was developed in .net platform. Cell control software architecture is also established based on the run-time controlled OPN, which integrates the scheduler and control function. A FMS cell controller is developed according to this architecture and has been applied to a didactical FMS in Beijing Jiao Tong University. Serial and parallel processing OPN modle was build, simulation and analysis.
