At present, China's energy situation is fairly grim。The pressure is increasingly faced by energy industry and high energy-consumption trades in the field of economic growth, environmental protection and social development. The state has put energy saving in buildings into a strategic position. On one hand, it is energy-consumed to use the traditional active air-conditioning system to attain satisfying indoor environment; On the other hand, in the 1970s and 1980s, the Sick Building Syndrome outbreak and the outbreak of SARS in 2003 in Asia have proved the technology strategy that uses mechanical means to create a closed air temperature, humidity and wind speed constant artificial environment to be incomplete..Therefore, the more natural and energy-efficient air-conditioning methods have become an inevitable choice. Under south-climatic conditions, one of the main means to achieve an acceptable or comfortable indoor environment by the method of energy-saving is strengthening natural ventilation, natural ventilation reducing the air-conditioning running time. Reasonable design to promote the construction of natural ventilation is the key areas to achieve this new target. Architectural layout, towards the doors, windows, the size and location of the impact of natural ventilation are fundamental aspects in the use of natural ventilation; CFD simulation technology will be applied to the study and application of natural ventilation, which is an important tool of quantitative analysis and definitely will enhance engineers'ability to predict and design indoor environment.In this paper, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is used to numerically simulate wind environment around a riverside residential building in the city of Chongqing. Based on that, CFD software Vortex is used to the numerical simulation of indoor flow, thermal and thermal comfort environment. In addition, in combination of meteorological parameters summer in Chongqing,, the potential of using natural ventilation at night in Chongqing region is analyzed by the results gained from the simulation . Through the simulation of the thermal environments of a room with different openings in the same outdoor conditions of natural wind, a comparison among various opening-modes is made in terms of the performance in using natural wind to improve indoor thermal environment.
