Ornamental plant is the only living element of the landscape design,which is playing a very important role. The flower, the leaf, the fruit and the posture of plant have their particular ornamental value.Combined with the arrangment of plant, they can be crucial factor which define the ornamental image and the garden style. Meanwhile, plant is the sound of silence. They present the local culture, record the history of a city and witness the tracks of roads in the city with their unique means.Plants can even become the symbol of a city just like the buildings and statues do.With the progress of the society and the development of economy, ecological city is widely accepted by people.Their ideas to pursue ecological living environment increase day by day. Constructing ecological garden city with local culture features is the direction of city gardening and green turning.According to the development of social economy ,the natural conditions and climate of Yulin,the plant arrangement is investigated in arterial areas in the city of Yulin(ecological parks, squares, living quarters ,courtyards), roads ( city roads, superhighways, the developing area roads)in the aspects of the diversity of the scenery,the culture ,the change of climate and plant arrangement. The following is the result:1.The application of landscape plants in Yulin is limited,there are altogether 530 species of spermatophyte,but under 100 species used for greening work;Seanonal sceneries are simple,which is out of harmony with the development of economy and society; On the basis of the types of vegetation and climate of Yulin,plants in four seasons are evergreen and three seasons are flowering.The arrangement modes are humdrum. The form of a row of trees still remains.That is a road with two rows of trees on both sides.Square groud is held by big lawn primarily.But they are freely growing with less cutting,which is of course less beautiful;The features of local culture are not outstanding.There aren't the chief trees and species and the usage of traditional plants reflecting historical features and plants reflecting city culture is lack;Trees along the streets conflic with the construction of the city,which makes them out of order.2. Ornamental plants arrangement of Chinese and foreign countries mutually blends in the developing process.The goal is that maintains the ecological balance,the harmony of the person and the nature in the foundation of nature -like or in the rule -like disposition. Ornamental plants arrangement must follow the correlation principle and the method, conforms to the scientific principle,manifests the watching function and the region culture.It can solve the problem of ornamental plant in the Yulin,and construct Yulin into economical ,cultural, ecology city.According to the principle of matching region with trees and acting as circumstances permit, the standard of choosing plants, grasping the biology characteristic of the trees and the function, integrating the group fallsmultiple and the main key tree seed, the basic meathod of ornamental plants is comprehensively consideration of the short-term benefit and the long-term benefit, select reasonably the plants density.3. Through observation and investigation the growth habit and characteristic of garden plant, there are 12 subjects with 31 species of suitable landscape plants for our city. And there are 16 subjects with 53 species of tall trees,bushes and grass for flower-seeing, and 10 subjects with 17 species for leaf–seeing in autumn.So there are 38 sujects with over 100 species in total.The suitable arrangements in our city are"water-saving"type,"wind-resistance and shade-tolerance"type, the"landscape"type, and the"ornament-recreationg"type. These typical modes will produce instructional meaning to the plant arrangement in Yulin city, suitable the natural condition climate characteristic and the economical level disposition.Constructing the landscaping city which is rich of place characteristic, manifests the city in the forest, the lake in the city, the building in green center, people in scenery and the harmony of the people and the nature. The direction of landscaping city construction is high beginning, high level, high standard, high grade, made Yulin the national even the world high-quality city.
