As an important kind of riveting technology, pressing rivet has been introduced in a wide range of applications in airplane manufacturing. However, rivet deformation is a key problem, which effects quality and performance of the assembly. In this article, the numerical simulation and theory analysis are presented to research the deformation of rivet and planes. The riveting process is divided into five stages, the deformations status is analyzed in every stage. At last, the results of numerical simulation are given as a validation. The main research work is as follows:(1) Through analyzing and contrasting all kinds of rivet methods, the paper explains automatic drilling and riveting technology is one of the most advanced manufacture technology. Then the mechanical structure of automatic Rivet Gun and the process of pressing rivet are analyzed. The paper takes the process of pressing rivet as an object.(2) The theory of metal plastic forming during rivet process is studied. After analyzing the deformation status of rivet and riveted planes, the impact factors are discussed.(3) The whole process of pressing rivet is divided into five stages, after analyzing the force of rivet and planes, the stress and press distributed during pressing rivet are calculated. At the same time, the method is proposed, which can reckon the expanded degree of the hole.(4) Dynamic riveting processes have been simulated by Ansys/LS-DYNA. The key technology of FE analyze is researched. At last, the process of forming and changing of plastic elements is simulated by ANSYS/LS-DYNA solver, and also computes the distributing of element stresses and element strains. The postprocessor analyze the distributing characteristic and the changing orders of stresses and stains.
