The finite element analysis and experimental study on bearing capacity of cast steel joint under static load are included in this paper. (1) Based on the elastic-plastic theory,nonlinear FEM analysis of bearing capacity of cast steel hollow spherical joints with different specifications under compression, tension or moment are performed through large general-purpose FEM program ANSYS, then the failure mechanism and ultimate bearing capacity of this kind of joint are presented; the bearing capacity formula of this kind of joint under compression, tension or moment is deduced by the linear regression method depending on least squares theory. (2)The elastic-plastic FEM analysis of bearing capacity of nine typical cast steel hollow spherical joints under eight load combinations of axial force and moment is performed, the plastic development process and ultimate bearing capacity of cast steel hollow spherical joints under load combinations of axial force and moment are pointed out; the bearing capacity formula of cast steel hollow spherical joints under load combinations of axial force and moment is also derived,based on the punching shear failure model.(3)The FEM analysis of bearing capacity of six different kinds of cast steel intersection joints from Tianjin Olympic Stadium is performed, and the stress distribution and ultimate load are gained; Based on the rusults of FEM analysis, the full-scale loading test on third cast steel joints in Tianjin Olympic Stadium is performed, and the stress distribution on the surface of the cast steel joints under double maximum design load are obtained, compared the test result with the FEM analysis result, it shows that both of the values match each other very well,which proves the FEM analysis.
