The mechanical calculation of overhead electrical wire is one of the most important calculations among the overhead transmission lines. The stress and sag of electrical wire are introduced and their calculations are derived in theory. The discrimination of critical span and the determination of control meteorologic condition are discussed. Moreover, the formulae of stress and sag and critical span of seriate pan and isolated span are put forward in this paper. According to the design manual of transmission lines and practical engineering requirement, the secondary development of AutoCAD is carried out using ObjectARX and visual program language Visual C++.net. Furthermore, the mechanical calculation software of electrical wire is compiled and the datasheet of electrical wire stress and sag, characteristic table, table of meteorologic condition, mechanical character graph and paying off graph of electrical wire are generated in AutoCAD. Through the practical testing, the software has accurate calculation, fast speed and friendly interface, which is easy to handle and have good application value for engineering.
