A Superficial Study On Gray Space In Urban Park

Human behavior can always been melting into a special space. In modern urban design, the space design also pays more attention to how to provide some good supports for the activities of people, so the design would be suit to the variety of behaviors and habits and the tendency of the activities, and then satisfy the needs of human behaviors. In these sites for activities, all kinds of spaces are main grounds for people to organize activities. People can choose special spaces according to their way of activities. Regarding to space itself, the spatial construction decides the property of space, as well as the property of space is the important standard for people's choice. Gray space is a unique form of space. It is a space which is neither defined as a private space nor an open space. People will feel more comfortable and would like to enjoy several kinds of entertainments in this space.According to the theories related, based on the urban parks which are the representation for urban landscape design, and combining with some theories, such as environment psychology, environmental behavior and urban park design, the paper analyzes, induces and summarizes the theory of constructions, properties and functions of gray space, the structural forms of gray space. And through the ways of checking the data, measuring and observing on the spot, the author investigates the gray spaces of two urban parks in Beijing. According to the investigation and study, the author firstly summaries the property of gray space , analyzes the situation of usage circumstance and propose the problems in the process of usage circumstance, and then raises the methods to solving these problems, finally concludes the general guidelines of gray space design in urban parks.
