In order to solve the problem of wasting electric power in universities, a intelligentized light-control system was designed in this article by using the system of programmable chip (SOPC). The technology of imagine processing is to judge whether there is a person in the classroom, and to determine if it is necessary to turn on the lights under the multifold causes based on the effective control strategy. For the reason of saving energy, the system turns the lights off when nobody is in the classroom. The whole design uses the NIOS core as its CPU, and it uses the method of SOPC to combine the hardware and the software. VHDL was used to code the FPGA and C Language was used to code the software for image processing. In order to communicate with the single chip microcomputer and show the picture, the upper unit was coded with VC++ to design the control and display the interface. By testing, the system meets the design requirements and controls the lights intelligently. The whole system was designed in a single FPGA chip and assisted with the peripheral equipment by a low-cost and high-flexible way. This study establishes a sound foundation for the further research. It is innovative to implement image processing technologies to SOPC and apply it in the intelligent power saving system.
