Because the highway forecasted volumes were underestimated or there were lacks of construction funds and land in the earlier years of expressway constructions in China, many of the expressways built years ago are operated under saturated flow condition before their expirations. In order to better serve the transportation demands both now and in the future, the expressways should be rebuilt or widened. The reconstruction of expressway is undergone in its very first age.Since the reconstructed expressways undertake very heavy traffic volumes and the local roads parallel to them are low-class highways even though they are urban streets, they cannot have sufficient capacity to take over the traffic flows diverted from the expressways under reconstruction. Under the inadequate conditions for traffic flow diversions as well as the expressway reconstructions proceeded not closed to traffic, the traffic organizations guaranteed both to construction safety and smoothly and keep the traffic flow uncongested are very hard task, their complexity is very high, and finally it is necessary to do the research on it.Based on the principles of traffic engineering and by use of a traffic simulation software package, the traffic-keeping measures of traffic flow during reconstruction of a expressway is thoroughly and systematically studied in this dissertation. There are the following aspects accomplished in this dissertation.1. Establishing a whole set of scientific and feasible traffic-keeping measures during reconstruction of expressway. Detailed case study goes to the reconstruction of the Zhengzhou Section, Lian-Huo Expressway;2. According to the distribution of the main highways and streets within the impacted area of the reconstructed project as well as the traffic characteristics of the Zhengzhou Section, Lian-Huo Expressway, the current traffic conditions, volumes, vehicular speeds, and the geometric figures of the main highways and streets within the impacted area are fully studied;3. By use of the observed and processed traffic data as well as the advanced traffic simulation software package TSIS, the traffic-keeping measures for expressway reconstruction are simulated both under the current traffic pattern and future conditions, and the optimal speed limitations and the optimal diversion routes under the emergency are produced aftermath;4. In addition to the item 3, the traffic-keeping measuress or traffic transfer plans duo to emergencies of traffic flow during reconstruction of the Zhengzhou Section of Lian-Huo Expressway for its main line subgrade, interchanges, as well as bridges are worked out respectively.
