Intersection Safety Evaluation Based On Traffic Conflict Technique

Intersection is the important hinge of the net of highway and transportation; meanwhile it is always the black spot. Hence, the safety condition of the intersection has a significant effect to safety level of the transportation of the whole area. In order to improve the safety level of the city highway and transportation, the safety of the intersections should be evaluated objectively, and then propose the modified measures so that they can advance the safety functions and the operation efficiency of the traffic.First, the dissertation briefly introduces the method of safety evaluation of the intersection existed nowadays, and analyses the merits and demerits of the safety evaluations based on statistic of traffic accidents. Aiming at solving the shortcomings, this dissertation puts forward three methods of the safety evaluation of intersection based on traffic conflict techniques, including signal phase evaluation method based on TCT, rear-end conflict evaluation method based on TCT, and the gray cluster theory evaluation method based on TCT at Intersections, which enrich the safety evaluation methods based on the non-accidents statistics system.For the study of the traffic conflict techniques, firstly, this dissertation starts from the actualities of the domestic and overseas researches. It mainly discusses the classification of the traffic conflict and the problems of distinguishing the serious conflict or not. Then it confirms the standard of measuring and distinguishing of the traffic conflict survey. Next, it analyses the characters of the traffic stream of the intersection and roadway conditions, so it finds the main factors which affect the intersection conflict points, involving the number of intersecting roads, left turning traffic stream, and the signal control.Based on traffic conflict, three safety evaluation methods is mainly studied, and separately discussed as following:â‘ Combining traffic conflict technique and gray cluster theory and using the ratio (TC/MPCU) as the assessment index, the traffic conflict gray cluster theory is put out ,which is based on per hour average traffic conflict and traffic volume, and it is used as safety evaluation in many similar intersections, the quickly cluster analyze and safety evaluation are realized.â‘¡Based on traffic conflict, the signal phase safety evaluation method is used,...
