As the typical large-span spatial structure, the roof of gymnasiums usually resists load and action through its own 3D form and composing.It is obvious that every work which has the lasting vitality often came into being through the following two ways: First, creating a brand-new architectural spatial sculpt through the innovation of the structural system, like the cable dome applied in Atlanta Georgia gymnasium. However, it needs a long-term course to research, experiment and practice. Second, according to the features of the architectural form, choosing the structural system with excellent adaptability and outstanding performance to make a perfect combination of architectural art and structural technology. It is obvious that the latter has much bigger successful possibility in the practice. As for the structural design, how to adeptly utilize the clear structural conception, cooperate the architects to create imaginary and innovative roof form and choose the logical structural system, and finally forms a highly effective roof structural system on the basis of deep analysis and continual optimization.The large-span structure is generally divided into these types: truss, Lattice Truss, shell, arch, cable and menbrance structures and so on. the hybrid tension structure is the most popular type in recent years. As a new kind of structural systems, the hybrid tension structure has larruping good performances, such as the rationality of the structural constitution, the remarkable self-balance characteristic and overall stability, the initiative stress control function, good energy-consuming performance and great adaptive ability to architectural form and so on. These excellent characteristics make it obtain the widespread application during the complicated and specialized design of the gymnasiums.The first chapter is the introduction. It concluded the large-span structures and introduced the main characteristics of the hybrid tension structure, the research actuality and shortage are expatiated.The second chapter is the basic theory of the nonlinear finite elementThe third chapter introduced the static characteristics of the hybrid tension structure based on the case of quanzhou Gym and Beijing University Gym. The structural analysis method and the modeling method are compared; Parameters analysis is carried out and the excellent mechanical performance of hybrid tension structure is discussed.The forth chapter is about the stability analysis. Linear and nonlinear bucling analysis methods are used to the structural overall stability. Parameters analysis is carried out and the stability of the mast members is discussedThe fifth chapter is about the elastoplastic ultimate capacity analysis and the performance design. elastoplastic ultimate capacity analysis could tell the structural plastic develop orders and the structural security. The performance design is a new kind of method to evaluate the structural security of new structural system and complex structures.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.
