Intelligent transportation system (ITS) is the alliance of traditional traffic technology and modern information technology, which is also a traffic mode towards the future world. The technology for human machine interface (HMI) is a key part which may directly result to the running efficiency and the serving quality of the ITS.Referring to the characteristics of the application of ITS, modern popular information and communication technologies are introduced here to design a new type of HMI system for different conditions and different groups of users. The principle and methods of HMI based on ARM and uClinux which is for the fixed station is illustrated first, which relates to several subjects of embedded Linux system development. The writer learned the principle of Boot loader,the architecture of Linux system,the principle of Linux device driver and the principle of Linux inter-process communication (IPC).
