In an era of economic globalization , Capital mobility blurred national boundaries. Urban economic has increasingly become the main role in global economy. Cities are caught in a comprehensive competition. To enhance the competitiveness of urban and regional influence , big Cities actively tap their own potential, expanse their urban space outward and integrate their urban resources inward.Against this background, city events gained more and more concerns. On the one hand, As a useful tool for urban marketing, city events are used to achieve the ambitious goal of city development strategies . On the other hand, great city events, especially the Olympics, Expo, can trigger considerable amount of urban construction and development, and give great impact to the urban renewal process and policy formulation activities. Then they can be see as special ueban catalytists. And Its catalytic role will especially show in the peripheral areas adjacent to their organizations.On basis of the theoretical analysis, this paper lists the previous case of the great city events which successfully promoted the urban renewal ,then analysis and forecast :Shanghai Expo 2010 will bring Shanghai's overall urban renewal all-round and profound impact. Further, as being directly adjacent to the planning area of Shanghai Expo 2010 , Dongjiadu & Bansongyuan community are teken as case study from four areas: the material , economic, social and management. Through this case study, the community renewal identity in influence of Expo is more clear in this special historical stage . According this, content and the role of mechanisms of community renewal in influende of Expo is summarized and corresponding policy recommendations are drawed.
