General air source heat pump (ASHP) will become quasi-two stage compression heat pump system after adding a scroll compressor with supplementary inlets. This kind of cycle can effectively improve the main deficiencies of conventional air-source heat pump such as low efficiency and poor reliability when running in conditions of low ambient temperature. In this paper, based on the status in quo of quasi-two stage heat pump system with scroll compressor, the performance of scroll compressor using in quasi-two stage compression heat pump system is comprehensively analyzed, and the experimental investigation for the prototype is presented.In this paper, firstly, the heat pump system coupled with scroll compressor and its working principle were introduced in detail. Considering the working mechanism of quasi-two stage heat pump system with scroll compressor, the working process of compressor was analyzed. The scroll compressor has a fixed volumetric ratio and its duration of compressing process is very short and volume of working chamber continuously changed. Based on this characteristic, the mathematic model was set up. The mathematic model is fit for scroll compressor using in quasi-two stage compression heat pump system and includes the main complication of effecting compressor capability. The main performances were calculated by emulating and simulating for scroll compressor using in quasi-two stage compression heat pump system and were compared with scroll compressor using in general heat pump system. The coefficients such as the best position of supplementary inlets and reasonable operation pattern of scroll compressor using in quasi-two stage compression heat pump system all provide referenced gist for following academic researching of scroll compressor.Based on theoretical analysis, the compressor capability experiment rig was modified and the experimental project of scroll compressor using in quasi-two stage compression heat pump system was developed, and the prototype was taken a comprehensive capability test. By theoretical analysis and measured data, experimental result was verified and the method of theoretical analysis was corrected. Furthermore, the inherent law of scroll compressor using in quasi-two stage compression heat pump system was comprehended. The results demonstrate that the heating capacity of the prototype decreases with decrease of the evaporating temperature, but the decreasing rate is much slower than that of scroll compressor using in general heat pump system; the electric power input increases with decrease of the evaporating temperature, but its increment is very small; the scroll compressor using in quasi-two stage compression heat pump system can improve the heating performances more efficiently than the scroll compressor using in general heat pump system under low ambient temperature conditions, so it is much suitable to the small air source heat pump.This research will improve the working principle in low temperature condition of scroll compressor using in air source heat pump system effectively, quicken the development paces of heat pump industries, and expand the application of air-source heat pump, so it can meet the requirements of the sustainable development.
