This paper mainly addresses the traditional folk houses of the Bai nationality in Shaxi Town, Jianchuan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan province. I based myself on the local special natural-environment and historical-culture-environment to carry out thorough and careful research. I analyzed on local folk houses from architectural space, architectural structure, architectural aesthetics , etc. This paper looks at the unique glamour of the shape of traditional folk house of the Bai nationality in Shaxi to readers.With the expectation to make local resident get help from this paper eventually, I have made a large number of careful investigations and studies in Shaxi and have processed a lot of precious firsthand materials. Based on all these information, the main factors making local folk houses come into being have been probed into through many analytic approaches such as typology, statistics, etc. Several-hundred aspects affected by topographical condition, climate environment, construction material, economic pattern, social life and influence of Chinese civilisation have been involved in the paper.The traditional folk houses of Bai nationality in Shaxi are similar to ones in Dali, but there are a lot of deference between them because of topographical condition, economic pattern, social life and other influences, and I made it clear in the paper.Combining with the proximity, communication with local resident and the investigation on their actual inhabitable situation, the analysis about their current living conditions and main existing problems has been carried out. Including· Deliberation and choice on structure· Update and technical treatment on the construction material· Reasonable utilization and arrangement of partial space· The combination of new and old mode.Limited by time and standards of authorities, it is unavoidable for certain loopholes and bias. I hope to put more effort on the further study and deliberation of feasibility of modification schemes. Furthermore, I hope more people of architecture trade devote themselves to the study of modern rural buildings, especially in the study of Chinese traditional folk houses of minority nationalities.
