With the development and popularization of special-shaped column frame,it is of great importance to make study of this structural system. Earlier studies show that it is necessary to control the deformation of the weak bottom part of the structure and to have it designed reasonably. Experts and scholars have suggested an improvement of changing the special-shaped bottom columns into rectangle ones. The article compares behaviors of special-shaped column frame with bottom rectangle columns with ordinary special-shaped column frame,and analyses the two models by time-history analysis method. Analysis shows that the deformation of the bottom part of the structure has been controlled effectively with such improvement. The article also makes a comparative analysis while changing the bottom storey height of the model,discovers that the higher the bottom storey is,the better will the uniformity of vertical stiffness be when the height of the bottom storey changing from 3.0metres to 4.8metres.It controls the displacement of both the bottom storey and the top storey effectively. We concluded that the seismic behavior of special-shaped column frame with bottom rectangle columns will be better than that of ordinary special-shaped column frame through reasonable designing.
