The structural style and running mode of traction electric network are various, special and complex, which cause the protection schemes to be particular and challenging. The protective schemes of traction electric system should not only satisfy traditional technical demands of protection, but also suit the running mode and structural style of specific traction electric system. In this paper, the feeder line protection of electrified railway is discussed, including how to select the protective schemes and how to calculate the setting values accurately, which can be used to improve design level, optimize design plan and reduce design work.Firstly, this paper discusses the protective schemes and calculation methods in traction electric network. Especially, this paper focuses on difficulty of protection configuration and setting values calculation caused by the complexity and diversity of traction network. Within this part, the quadrilateral impedance distance protection, the adaptive three-stage distance protection and current protection, including their setting principle and calculation methods, are analyzed.Secondly, the existing protective principle of feeder line is generalized and induced. The setting principle and calculation method is completed. The calculation model of protective parameters is established, including feeder line impedance, traction load current, short-circuit current, and so on. With the use of Acad/lisp programming language, based on the open software framework, the simulation software in this paper is divided into 5 independent subprograms. In order to improve the compatibility, all subprograms can establish their own parameters information database. The simulation software has friendly man-machine interface, can inquiry the simulation procedure and print simulation result in the form of calculation sheet.Finally, the simulation software is applied to calculate practice feeder line protection of traction network. The application result indicates that the simulation software is correct and feasible.
