In the research of automobile driving and the road traffic system, due to the limits of the environment and various factors, it is impossible to research under theoretic environment and idealized state in most situations. Neither is the study of idealized mathematics model.Along with the development of virtual reality technology based on the high performance computer, the research of the road traffic and the vehicle driving gradually approaches to the research of virtual reality. The vehicle driving simulator not only provides a kind of effective simulation platform for the correlation domain research, but also is a kind of practical technical production itself. The software system is an important component of similar simulator system, and the running and design of the 3D traffic scene model are main contents in design of the driving simulator software system.At present, most kinds of 3D models of virtual reality system in the world are designed in 3D modeling software. Therefore it is expensive, long period and low efficiency. And designer is demanded to be senior 3D artist and skilled road designer.To the problem existed, the thesis studies the transportation scene autogeneration technology. For the research of the traffic flow, the driving behavior, and the design of multifunction, interactive, distributed and real-time vehicle simulator system, the author achieved the autogeneration technology for the road traffic scene 3D model by carrying on the operation through the OpenFlight API, according to the real road design method and the national standard. The thesis tries hard to provide real vision effect. The main content in this thesis may divide into 4 parts: the research of road network 3D model generation method, environment 3D model generation method, virtual road signs 3D model generation method and model optimizing method.Worked out a set of algorithms, which converts the straight and curve road section data transformation into the 3D space polygons vertex data. According to calculated polygons parameter and the OpenFlight hierarchy database, author designed a program to carry out the function of drawing the road section 3D model through OpenFlight API. The methods of filling color and mapping texture are also researched in the article.According to the actual development work demand, author used different methods to design certain unit outdoor scene models based on the different platform. Based on the feature of OpenFlight hierarchy database, there are 2 units model organizing methods designed, and there is a program made for carrying out the function. Moreover, the geometry transformation of the unit 3D models was carried out.By use of the design methods and correlative national standards of real road, the design methods and rules of road signs in virtual traffic scenes were researched. The vision of Chinese characters base on foundation of the human body vision and driving behavior was studied. And an algorithm method of road signs setting method was established, base on the feature of virtual road scene and relative national standard about road signs. Finally, author designed 3 kind of drawing methods of route models.The application of traditional 3D model optimizing and simplification method in traffic scenes designing is summarized. According to the OpenFlight database unique feature, the efficiency influence of the hierarchy database organizational structure to the integrated real-time system was analyzed. And OpenFlight API in optimizing the structure of the hierarchy database in Visual C++ was applied.
