The Vehicle Driving Simulator, also called vehicle driving simulated system, is a high-tech platform crossing many kinds of technologies, which integrated Virtual Reality, mechanical transmission technology, computer graphics, 3-D real-time rendering, computer interface, data traffic technology. Depending on Driving Simulator, the interaction relations of vehicle, driver and road can be researched, and the drivers can get effective training with advanced simulation technology, which is very important because the pressure of driving training system in our country can be relieved. And at the same time, it can also help to avoid environment pollution, decrease energy consuming, and lessen training cost. So the study of it has a great academic and practical significance, and its productions have a good market.This paper has a systemic research on the Vehicle Driving Simulator.First, the object-oriented models of vehicle dynamic subsystem are founded based on object-oriented theory and method. The vehicle dynamics simulation models are constructed in the mathematical methods based on vehicle kinematics and dynamics theories, which is the theories and programming base of the vehicle dynamics and kinematics simulation.Secondly, based on three-dimensional modeling techniques, the 3D models of the visual scene simulation database are constructed. Based on OpenInventor and C++ programming technology, the basic class database such as the hierarchal structure of the virtual scene, model analysis module, collision detection module, and the Real-time rendering and controlling of the camera are designed. Also, the virtual scene model is optimized greatly. Therefore, a virtual simulation scene system is constructed.Finally, according to automotive kinematic theory and the Real-time rendering technology, the helmet-mounted display (HMD) system and vehicle dynamics model are analyzed as the controlling role on the rendering camera. The interface between HMD and the virtual scene model is built by using the software development kit (SDK) of HMD and C++, which makes it possible that the rendering camera can move and rotate efficiently along with the motion of vehicle and HMD. The human-machine interface is developed by using C++ and the joystick device, such as steering wheel, selector mechanism, accelerator pedal, brake pedal, clutch pedal, which can accurately simulate vehicle states of various driving conditions such as starting, accelerating, turning, braking and ramp driving, it can also provide driver with a realistic simulation environment.
