Many cities, especially in plain area such as Jiangsu, Shanghai and Zhejiang wherewater resources are abundant, are constructing artificial landscape lakes to beautify andimprove the city's ecological environment and provide the dwellers a comfortablelifespace. The water qualityin these artificial landscape lakes became bad before long after theyhavebeen built, and a few problems in the planning and design of artificial landscape lakes needtobestudied. This paper summarizes four main problems which needs to be considered during theplanning and design of artificial landscape lakes: they are basic design factors, thehydrodynamic analysis of lake water, the forecast of eutrophication and the forecast ofpollutant's concentration field, basing on its studies. Then this paper analyses the artificiallandscapelakeinTongxiang,Jiaxingasanexample. The basic design factors of artificial landscape lake include water source, lake shape,water-tightmeasures and watertreatment.Thedesignof watersourceincludespondage, thechoose of water source and matching buildings. The design of lake shape includes verticalplane, horizontalplane, lakebedandlakeshore. In this paper, the hydrodynamics and concentration field of an artificial landscape lakeis simulated by the RMA2 and RMA4 moudles of SMS software. The flow patterns andcontaminant concentration have been forecasted by this calculation. The computed resultshave optimized the operation modes of the inlets and outlets, and have provided theconcentrationfielddistributionintheartificiallandscapelake atdifferenttimes.Eutrophication in the artificial landscape lake is one of the main problems after it isbuilt.Thispaperlistsseveralsimpletotalphosphorusandnitrogenmodelsbasingona gooddeal ofdocuments and makes a simple totalphosphorus and nitrogen model bydatas fitting. Then chooses some of them to predict the eutrophication in the artificial landscape lake bycomparingallthesemodelsandthenewfittingformula. This paper also summarizes the research results which are very helpful for theplanning and design of artificial landscape lakes, but there still exist some problems whichareworthtobestudiedfurther.
