Compression testing machines, as the main testing instrument, havebeen widely used in many industry applications, such as steel,architecture, metallurgy, chemistry and so on. With the development ofthe automation, electronics and computer technologies, the measurementand control system of compression testing machine becomes more andmore advanced. It is no longer a simple hardware entity, but is composedof both hardware and software. The system requires not only highprecision and reliability, but also friendly human-machine interfaces,control softwares which monitor the testing work in real time, excellentdata processing and network transmitting.The existing measurement and control system of compression testingmachine is usually composed of a PC and some corresponding softwares.Such scheme has some disadvantages such as wasting hardware resources,increasing cost, decreasing stability and reliability, and bad expansibilityand maintainability. So the factories, which produce compression testingmachines, urgently want to develop a new set of measurement and controlsystem. Under this background, the research is presented, on which themeasurement and control system of compression testing machine isdesigned based on the embedded technology. This is a job of greatpractical significance. The main contributions of the work are listed asfollows:1. The survey on the current status and future development of themeasurement and control system has been presented detailly. The maintheories and key technologies of the system are investigated deeply, andthe drawbacks of the existing system are also discussed. 2. A new measurement and control system is proposed, whichconsists of the embedded micro-processor, the embedded Linux operatingsystem, the embedded GUI and the embedded database. The advantagesof the system have also been studied. It is proved that such scheme canalso be used for other many intelligent instruments.3. The embedded hardware platform is studied and designed, whichincludes a S3C2410 CPU using an ARM9 core, and other peripheralcomponents. The platform has many advantages such as high efficiencyof resource utilization, low cost, high reliability and good expansibility.4. The characteristics, the core architecture, and the operationprinciple of the embedded Linux have been investigated profoundly. Theembedded Linux system has been customized specificly, in which thecore has been studied and improved according to the system, and somedrivers have also been designed and added. The final embedded Linuxsystem is then transplanted to the hardware platform. Based on the aboveobtained platform, the Yaffs file system, Qt/Embedded GUI and SQLiteDBMS are constructed, and the system software platform is ultimately setup.5. Finally, the intelligent software of the measurement and controlsystem is studied and designed, which has a friendly interface, convenientoperation, powerful network performance and so on. The test curve inreal time is analyzed based on the Least-square Principle. So, by thesoftware, the user can watch the loading curve of the compression testingmachine and also judge the loading process. The transmition of the testinformation through network is also realized by using the client/servermode.
