Research On The Small-scale Gradual And Organic Renewal Mode For Historical Residential Area In Old Beijing

In Beijing old city, the historical residential areas are the places where are full of vitality. There are so many well-known historical places of events and heritages. The historical housing and the form of architectural space layout including the culture are all unique in the world. So as the integral and important part of Beijing old city the historical residential areas should be treated very carefully.Now there are still amount of historical residential areas in the Beijing old city. However, the high speed of development is generating great stresses over these areas, which make the quality of physical environment drops. Residents here are lack of ability and positivity to improve it. So the conservation and the renovation of these areas can only be pushed under the external forces. But whose responsibility this job is and how to push it are the two important questions that should be answered. But they have not been answered very clearly and well.Among these questions who should be the organizer is the most important. Based on abundant evidences and data, the paper assumes that in the community the organizer should be a unit including the government and owners of historical housing and everybody who has the ability and enthusiasm of being involved in it. For the conservation of these areas and improving residents'living condition. Renovation in these areas must proceed in a small-scale gradual and measured way. We call this conservation and renovation a small-scale gradual and organic renewal mode. The thesis also discusses about the goal, the key content and guarantee system of this mode.
