The application of digitized design in automobile design has begun by the end of 20 thcentury, which accelerates the design process, shortens the design cycle and reduces the cost. In the field of automobile styling, the traditional manual way has been replaced by computer-aided styling based on some kind of software. Tour-bus named'Tour of Venice'is one of the tour-bus series developed by NAVECO. To realize digitized design of the series of tour-buses, research on Type NJ6746SKF tour-bus is made by using the software of UG, 3DS MAX, and PhotoShop jointly.Firstly, the technique theories of digitized degisn are expatiated, including 3-D modeling, feature modeling, parameterized modeling, realistic graphics building, reverse engineering, and computer aided ergonomics.Secondly, the main steps of computer aided bus styling are presented, which contains computer aided 3-D modeling, virtual assembly, model rendering, and result post-process based on UG, 3DS MAX, and PhotoShop. The criterion of surface segmentation principle is adopted in the bus body surface modeling according to the technique requests. The bus body surface is analyzed from the aspects of Gauss Curvature, Hightlight Curve, and Reflection Method. Design of the bus body and its accessories is included, as well as virtual assembly and computer-aided ergonomics with 3-D human model.Finally, to obtain perfect visual effect, the bus model is rendered by material map, light design, and virtual environment.
