A Study On Urban Public Open Waterfront Landscape Design

Nowadays, With the development of the economy and the improvement of public artistic appreciation, The public demands for high quality social life through communication and recreational activity. The early concept of public open space no longer accommodates the openness and diversities pursued by the modern public. It is quite trendy to built up an open and multiple use space. Therefore, Urban public open waterfront has been regarded as a kind of important public space in recent years.Urban public open waterfront is the region completely open to the general public and tourists. Landscape design should be based on the level of urban open space, with the unique combination of waterfront geography, ecology, historical and cultural conditions. It more emphasises on the integration of spatial form, creation of their own space, the embodiment of culture, the needs of people and the significance of harmony, comfortable and beautiful coastline of life.From 1960s, open waterfront development had scored remarkable achievements in Europe and the United States and other developed countries around the world. Currently, several Chinese cities have also tried the development. Many of the projects had a good social, economic and ecological effects on the city. However, there are still some problems. Based on the waterfront landscape renovation planning of Nanjing external Qinhuai River, the paper analyses the original planning results, explores the problem of designs, and gives the corresponding recommendations on landscape design. External Qinhuai River is closely related to the development of the city and have given birth to the many splendid civilization. This study is carried out as a valuable object.1. In the first chapter, Combining research background and the current research methods, the significance and method of the research are indicated, also the definition of key concepts.2. Historical development and related building characteristics and experiences abroad of Urban public open waterfront are explained. The flaws of domestic waterfront landscape design are also discussed in the second part.3. Based on the level of urban design, space design, landscape ecology, the environmental psychology , I have given seven principles of landscape design and the general design approach of Waterfront various elements in chapter 3, in order to achieve social, ecological, economic goal.4. Compared the previous design theory, the gains and losses of results on waterfront landscape planning of Nanjing external Qinhuai river are analised. Meanwhile, the analysis will be sought to play the role of certification on theory.In the end, I attempted to advance the corresponding ideal design proposals with a view to plays a certain role on the latter part of the project design.5. The chapter 5 is summaries. I explained some of my own research issues, and their own limitations of the case study.
