| Tunpu are those castles or fortresses for ancient army residence, whose cultures originated in Ming Dynasty when the south of China was conquered by the army of Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of Ming Dynasty. After the conquest, some of his armies were mobilized from the north to guard the south of China. In Tunpu Cultural villages, the original cultural characteristics have been well-preserved, and regional civilizations have also been created in the long-term of war, farming and learning. This regional civilization has got its own distinguished historical characteristics, combining with the geographic environments, the social and cultural backgrounds of mountainous Guizhou Province, as well as the human residential environments formed by the interactions between human activities and natural environments. Tunpu Villages in Guizhou Province, with their integral environments and scenes, have not only embodied us their cultural values, academic values, values for tourism, but their emotional values, and applicable values, and their idiosyncrasies as well, which will be of more historic importance and never be obtained again that their social and economic values, significances in culture, history and education are inestimable and indispensable.This thesis focuses on discussing the distinguished features and protection work, concerning itself with the Guizhou Tunpu Cultural Villages. In the researches and studies, four well-preserved and representative villages have been chosen, surveyed and analyzed based on the integrated application of multi-disciplinary knowledge such as urban planology, architecture, sociology, geography, economics, ecology and the rest. Systematic analyses have been conducted on its historic origins, natural environments, historic and cultural features, current principal contradictions and problems in protection work. With Zhenshan Tunpu village as an example, this thesis discusses the protection and exploitation of the said villages, which suggests that we should establish our protection awareness, strengthen our technical support and forge the guarantee systems.This thesis consists of the following seven sections:Section One: Some introductions have been given to the origin of the research project, the research target and significance, current state of relevant researches home and abroad, the main contents, research approaches and the general framework of the project. Section Two: In this section, some analyses have been conducted on the historic evolution, geographic locations and distributions, and the merits and values of Tunpu villages. Simultaneously detailed surveys and analyses have also been given on four distinctive and typical Tunpu villages.Section Three: The author of this thesis has outlined the natural and environmental features, characteristics of space environment, architectural specialties, and distinctions in ethnic folk customs in Tunpu villages. Some discussions have been done about the formative reasons of their artificial environments and humanistic communities.Section Four: the author of this thesis has systematically analyzed and illustrated the problems and contradictions in current development of Tunpu Cultural Villages.Section Five: In this section, the protection and exploitation strategies have been explored, which suggests that we should establish our protection awareness, strengthen our technical support and forge the guarantee systems.Section Six: With Zhenshan Tunpu village as an example, this thesis has discussed the protection and development in practices of the Tunpu Cultural Villages. |
