With the development of social economy, the process of social modernization gradually spreads from town to village. At the same time,China is a developing country based on agriculture, with a large number of ethnic minority communities, and traditional ethnic minority villages are facing the impact of modernization and Chinese culture.Under the background of the gradual popularization of urban and rural construction integration and rapid economic growth, traditional villages and traditional culture have new opportunities for development, and they also face enormous challenges. How to protect traditional villages and how to inherit traditional cultures so that the cultural lifeblood of the Dai people can be continued and carried forward is the original intention of this article’s proposition study. In the entire country, there are many traditional villages in the process of development.A large number of traditional villages have been excavated and destroyed due to the development of industry and tourism, and their national culture is also facing a vanishing situation. In recent years, driven by a series of administrative forces and market forces such as "Beautiful Villages," "New Rural Construction," and "Rural Tourism," Yuping Autonomous County has seen many traditional Dai villages deep in the mountains appear in the public’s view.It is also about to face these problems.Under the current circumstances, how to achieve the inheritance of ethnic cultures and the protection of traditional villages at the same time of development is an urgent issue to be solved. This article first briefly summarizes the regional environment from the aspects of natural environment, historical and cultural background, and traditional customs of Yuping Dong Autonomous County.Focusing on the original features and houses of thetraditional villages of the Yi people in Yuping County,we will analyze its unique regional cultural and architectural features. In addition,on the basis of the fieldwork, two Yi villages(Chaoyang Village and Dawan Village)with relatively well-preserved traditional Yi village features and typical geographical representation were selected,as well as a Dai ethnic group that was severely damaged in the modern development tide. The village(Mu Nong Village)conducts research and analysis. It is concluded that during the process of popularization and development of urban and rural modernization in Yuping Dong Autonomous County, the Dong people’s culture faces the impact of foreign ideological culture, the independence of the Yi people is low,the economic strength is limited, and the government’s input is small. The traditional culture gradually disappeared. For example, the traditional wooden houses of the Yi nationality gradually changed to the brick-concrete structure, resulting in a serious destruction of the traditional village style of the Yuping Yi village. From the perspective of architecture(individual houses and villages as a whole),there are three reasons for the destruction of traditional villages.First, due to the combination of various factors, the general public have no resistance to the construction of brick-concrete structures in villages. It has shown a trend of great development, and its large number of modern new technologies, new functions, and new materials have been implanted into the traditional Yi villages, which has greatly impacted and shuffled the local traditional culture of the Yi ethnic group;furthermore, the traditional dry-bar wooden structure houses. The protection and repair aspects.Because of the old age of traditional wooden structures, most of the wood structure foundations are sinking, and molds such as beams and pillars are rotten and corroded, and local structures are detached. As a result,“dangerous houses” that are not suitable for people’s residences are formed. The villagers did not have the financial ability to repair themselves.Coupled with the government’s lack of corresponding economic support and related technical support, many wooden houses did not get repaired in time and were even demolished indiscriminately. Many traditional villages are in dire danger, and traditional Dong wooden houses are in danger. The sparseness of the population has also contributed to the cause of the peasants to go out to work, idle their homes, and form hollow villages. It eventually led to the irreversible destruction of the architectural styleof the traditional Yi villages. Finally, while the modernization and development of the traditional villages of the Yi people in the Yuping County, the layout of the village’s space was hard-cut by new planning roads and bridges. The new event plaza did not fully take into account the traditional forms of the Dai people. The massive investment in space has changed its homogenous spatial layout. If the layout of the traditional villages of the Yuping Yi ethnic group is completely changed and the wooden structure houses are completely replaced by brick-concrete structures, the wisdom of the revered Yuping Yi people may face the threat of being formatted. Therefore,it is imminent to propose and take corresponding actions for the protection of the traditional villages of the Yi people of the Yuping and the inheritance strategies of the Dong traditional culture. This is also the focus of this article. Finally,I hope that through the current status quo of the Yi people in Yuping Dong Autonomous County,I propose strategies for the protection and cultural inheritance of traditional villages, and provide suggestions and methods for other regions and other nationalities to provide relevant references.
