Magneto-rheological(MR) damper is one of semi-active absorbers, which has the characteristics of good controllability, low energy consumption, controllable damping force and rapid response. MR damper is suitable for automotive vibration mitigation, and consequently it has a promising future in automotive field. Methods of theoretically analysis, experimental investigation and visible simulation are used to investigate the damping character and semi-active control technology of the MR damper applied in automotive field.The damping characteristic of MR damper is analyzed. The polynomial model of MR damper is established by experimental method. Compared with the experimental data, the polynomial model can well describe the damping characteristic of MR damper.The MR damper is applied to a two-degree-of-freedom driven system. The normal fuzzy controller and simple fuzzy controller are designed for the system. Numerical simulation shows that the normal fuzzy controller can reduce the vibration of the system effectively, and the simple fuzzy controller can keep the control performance of normal fuzzy controller, and besides, it can improve the real time performance of the controller.In order to improve the control precision of the simple fuzzy controller, the genetic algorithm is designed to optimize it by using the genetic algorithm and direct search toolbox in MATLAB. An optimized look-up table of the simple fuzzy controller is established by the genetic algorithm.The visible simulation platform of MR damper is set up to verify the performance of the optimized simple fuzzy controller. The simulation results show that the performance of the optimized simple fuzzy controller is improved to some extent.The controller of MR damper is designed based on MC9S12DP256 single-chip computer. The design work of hardware and software for the controller is completed. An experiment is carried out to verify the performance of the controller.
