Intergrating with the technique of positioning, geographic informationsystem, database and communication, vehicle navigation and monitoringsystem is one of most important component of ITS. Due to the aggravationof traffic jam and the demands of traffic safety, more and more attention hasbeen paid to the research and development of vehicle navigation andmonitoringsystemintrafficmanagement.VehiclenavigationandmonitoringsystemsignificantlyplayaveryimportantroleintheITSapplications.First, through the study of the actuality of GPS vehicle navigation andmonitoringsystem throughout theworld,thetheoryofGPS,communicationnet and GIS is deeply researched. On this base, a detail design project isgiven. The system divides into three sub modules: vehicle terminal,communication network and monitoring center. GSM and GPRS are used asthe communication mode. MapX is used as the development tool of electricmap. And SQL Server 2000 is chosen as the database development tool.Hechuangximeng Company's HC-2000GMT is used as the vehicle terminal.The realization of GSM/GPRS communication is discussed and monitoringcenter database and software are particularly designed. At last, the thesis analyses some keyfunction modules such as GPS serial-port communicationanddataanalysesandmapmatching,andgivestheparticularrealization.GPS vehicle monitoring system will be more and more popular in ourlife. With the research deepen; the function of GPS vehicle monitoringsystem will be more perfect. The efficiency of vehicle management will beimprovedbyGPSvehiclemonitoringsystem.
