This paper intends to dissertate why Yangzhou gardens have both south and north characteristic in details through describing Yangzhou gardens as a stand, comparing with Suzhou gardens, moreover, to see the society ethos and people's mind of two different areas at that time through the comparison of two different kinds of gardens, on the basic of which, the paper puts forward the view that the elegance of Yangzhou gardens derives from persons who worship books among business people dealing with salt; the magnificence of them originates in rich economics of garden owners, "welcoming emperors" and Huidiao from business persons from Huizhou. And the author doubt the generally accepted view that Yangzhou gardens are ostentation and luxurious. Comparing with Suzhou gardens, the paper represents the overall recognition of Jiangnan gardens and obvious difference in styles of two kinds of gardens. Suzhou gardens are unforgettable for their elegant paintings full of cultural tinge, while Yangzhou gardens reflect with Suzhou gardens.
