Primary Research Of The Exposed Concrete Architecture Design

Today, with the development of concrete technology and the research of high-performance concrete, concrete building is undergoing a constant process of development. It provides engineers and architects with a broad range of possibilities in terms of both structural and formal design. It used to be believed that concrete only fit to used as structure, but now, architects like to use exposed concrete as decorate material on facade. Exposed concrete architecture is reviving.As architects, we pay more attention to the relationship of function and form, but pay little attention to the relationship of material and formal design. In China, concrete is the most popular building material, but we aren't good at the design and construction of exposed concrete building. As the concrete is a promising material, it's important to have a deep research on it.The article has five parts, three parts discuss the formal design of exposed concrete architecture, and the next two parts expatiate the construction design. The first chapter analyses the history of concrete and concrete building. Thus it can be seen that the progresses of concrete material bring the new concept to architecture design. The second chapter concludes some points of formal design of concrete building. And it also discusses the actuality of exposed concrete in China. The third chapter does research on the texture of exposed concrete facade. The fourth and fifth chapters conclude problems on the construction design. From design to construction, the article tries to have a general research on exposed concrete architecture. And the author hopes that the research will make progress on our practices.
