The research is one of urban design strategies based on energy-saving and climate flexibility in hot summer and cold winter area as a foundation item:National Natural Science Foundation(No.50578067)。The square is one of the most important parts in city outer space and also the classical objects in city studies.At present, domestic researches on city square, which concerned little for the application of city microclimate thermal environment coefficient (sun-radicalization, wind, air temperature and humidity) into the climate flexibility design, still settle on single vacuum substance element, esthetic levels and natural description stage.The article, from the view of thermal environment, has surveyed anew the traditional subject—city square. It mainly contains five parts.Firstly, the subject background, research status, purpose of the research, method used in the study and dissertation frame is separately explained in the article.Secondly, the research object of the dissertation is introduced exactly—relative basic factors of the city square flexibility in hot summer and cold winter area. For this article is an across-research between several subjects, first of all the main conceptions of city square, its constitutes and function are introduced. Besides, the city microclimate related thermal environment basic theories are introduced then. Through investigative questionnaire, visitation and other methods in the review of hot summer and cold winter area representative place, Wuhan city, the author has got the first-hand materials, on the basis of which the common problems existing in city square climate flexibility buildings ( ambient building interface, greening, pavement, water and climate safeguard involved ) have been analyzed.Thirdly, the main results of this article are elicited. According to the study on relative domestic and overseas researches, this part firstly discussed the feasibility to improve the microclimate environment in hot summer and cold winter area by applying the climate flexibility design strategy. Then Aiming at solving the problems found in the review, the author has put forward the corresponding climate flexibility design measures to realize how to increase natural airiness, reduce sun-radicalization, air temperature and humidity in summer and how to increase sun-radicalization and prevent wind in winter.Fourthly, the actual application of the climate flexibility design strategy is referred in this part. With the help of the case Wuhan Hongshan square climate flexibility alteration design, this part has detailed explained the matters ought to be paid attention to in square design.Finally, it comes to the conclusion of the desertion. In this part, the climate flexibility design strategy in hot summer and cold winter area is summarized. Which can give the guidance and helpful reference to not only the improvement of climate flexibility of the built squares but also the future square layout in hot summer and cold winter areas and other cities.
