Study On Application Of Design And Build Project In Highway Construction

The Design/Build is one model of engineering management, which refers to merging tenders invitations of project's design and construction, and let the contractor make an design and build. To spread and implement this management model helps the units of design and construction integrate closely, and fully exploit the cooperation potentialities of both parts, also it may effectively solve the divorce problem, which lies between design and construction. Meanwhile, it is beneficial to the optimization distribution of resources, to a greater extent, it ensures the quality of the design and construction, and can effectively control the cost of a project. On the other hand, it is of great significance to the promotion of strategic regrouping among enterprises of design and construction, also it does good to develop large construction enterprises which possess international competitive power.This thesis analyses the problems existed in the management of Design/Build which deals with the West Hu-Rong expressway, summarizes the strong and weak points of the Design/Build model in this project, and also makes researches on the application of this kind of contract into the construction of highway project around China.Through introducing the experience of the Design/Build in the construction of West Hu-Rong expressway, this thesis expounds the required circumstances and implementation programme of the Design/Build in a highway project. Then the author emphasizes the Design/Build contract's characters, which are special, international, practical and operable. And it is expected to improve the theory and method of project management, to let it become more systematic and operable, and to promote the development of the Design/Build dealing with highway construction in China, also it aims at improving the management of highway project, thus the construction may be completed with high quality and more profits.This thesis probes into the management model of the Design/Build concerning the highway construction. Through analysing the practical experience of project management, the author advances a suitable model of Design/Build that is fit for the national conditions in China and the project management in concrete highway construction. This thesis also makes researches on issues that are to be overcome by this model during the project management of highway construction, as well as the thinking of resolving questions and management.
