The ability to project manager of engineering and contracting corporation has animportant influence on project performance. The project manager has an impact onproject performance by affecting the performance of the project teamwork. Thus, thestudy on influence relationship of project manager’s abilities and project teamworkcan give us a better understanding on the process of project manager’s abilitiesimpacting on project performance. The influence process of the project manager to theproject teamwork differs within different project contracting methods. Whereby, thisthesis focuses on the difference analysis of impact on the project teamwork whichmade by the project manager’s ability between the DB and DBB projects in China.First, this thesis established an evaluation indicators system of the projectmanager abilities from three dimensions, i.e., project management capability,leadership and personal quality, and an evaluation indicators system of the projectteamwork from three dimensions, i.e., team cohesion, team collaboration and teamcommunication. By treating the project manager ability indicators as independentvariables and the project teamwork evaluation indicators as the dependent variables, amultiple linear regression model was constructed to show the relationship between theproject manager’s ability and the project teamwork. Then, this thesis found that theproject manager leadership has an positive impact on team cohesion, teamcollaboration and team communication; the personal qualities has an positive impacton team collaboration and team communication; and the work attitude has an positiveimpact on team cohesion. Finally, through the application of two independent samplesof K-S Z test method, this thesis came to the conclusion that the project manager’sleadership, personal qualities and work attitude affected the project teamworkdifferently in DB and DBB projects; that the empower and communication inleadership dimension have significant differences in affecting the team cohesionunder the DB and DBB projects; that the project manager’s influence has a significantdifference on affecting the team collaboration in DB and DBB projects; and that theproject manager’s conflict management capacity and self-confidence have significantdifferences on affecting the team communication in DB and DBB projects.By analyzing the differences of the influence made by the project manager’sability on the project teamwork between the two different project contracting methods,the paper indicates that when selecting DB and DBB project managers, the project manager’s empower, communication, influence, conflict management andself-confidence should be focused on to figure out that who is more appropriate tomanage the DB and who is more suitable for DBB project. This thesis will providesome theoretical support for selecting the project manager of the engineering andcontracting corporation.
