Due to the complicated structure and the diverse flow around power plant, it is significant and valuable to study the flow especially the character current field around the power plant in hydrodynamic view. In this paper, a hydrodynamics soft called FLUENT is introduced for calculating the exterior flow of the power plant, it will provide basis for studying the construct scheme, it must be significantly and valuably, and it has an active meaning on water conservancy engineering.A column circumferential flow is introduced for modeling the stream rounding the power plant. In numerical calculation, a non-structure mesh is adopt for setting off the calculate area, it is convenient to do self-fitted calculation, distribute the mesh's density in reason, and improve the calculate precision. Disperse the equation by a finite volume method, and solve the equation in coupling by a SIMPLE way. The boundary condition adopts Dirichlet condition in inlet, while Neumann condition is introduced in outlet. A wall-function method is adopted for dealing with the flow near the flank.It is successful to model current field under three different character velocity conditions by RNG k-e overfall model. The distributing of velocity, pressure and the curve of resistance coefficient while the velocity equal to 0.5m/s, 2m/s and 4m/s. Comparing with the result of reference, the velocity distributing of column circumferential flow and the circumfluence behind the column are both accord with the reference.The study has successfully modeled the period extend of trail eddy, the structural character of evolvement and spread, and the resistance character. Under the different inlet boundary velocity, the form of trail eddy will produce some changes with the current movement. The length of trail eddy will be long when velocity is small; the length of trail eddy will be shorter as the increase of velocity of flow.Analyzing the distributing of pressure under different velocity in each part of the power plant structure, suggesting the distributing and law of pressure, it is effective in instructing structure analysis. The distributing of pressure in front stream side is asymmetric, and the center part of guide stream side is always big. The distributing of pressure on the arranged stream side is well-propositioned. The distributing of pressure on both side of guide stream is minus and diverse.From the conclusion, it is assured that the model set up in this paper can be used for modeling unstable, non-constant and separate flow of exterior field of power plant, it could be provide academic basis for studying power project.
