As substation is essentially important in our social life, we need to ensure the safe and reliable operation of substation equipment. Conventional check of substation equipment is done by the checking workers, carrying paper forms to do a site check and copy the bug data, in which exist such problems as the workers' absence, low efficiency, misdetection as well as human error. This conventional check is a hidden security trouble to the operation of substation.With the development of computer science and network technology, mobile terminal device develops rapidly. It's extensively applied today, an age that requires effectiveness and mobility. Especially in recent years, Pocket PC is widely used in outdoor work as well as spot information collection. Its mobility can meet the requirement of outdoor substation inspection, therefore, Pocket PC can be widely applied in substation inspection system.First the present situation of substation inspection system is introduced in this articles, then it's requirements are analysed and a mobile resolution of substation inspection system based on Pocket PC by applying Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is suggested to be set up.As to the mobile resolution, the key techniques, such as Pocket PC, Mobile Database and Automatic Identification are mainly researched in this article. Also in this thesis, the author discusses the development of checking terminal programs based on .NET Compact Framework, which is quite different from that in the past when people used to develop Pocket PC programs with Microsoft EVC, and by means of Object-Oriented Design Methods and UML, an analytical design is also performed in designing the inspection system, thus a substation inspection system with actual feasibility has been accordingly finalized on this basis.
