In recent years, green and red signal countdown device, flashing green light and red/amber light were used in China. However, there was no traffic rules regulate these signal lights in China so that the application of these lights is disordered and results in lots of traffic accidents.In the paper, we will analysis the applicability of countdown device, flashing green light and red/amber light through investigation in China, and try to regulate them.In China, the formula model of common green change interval is simple and ideal, and doesn't consider the compact of drive psychology and behavior when use green and red signal countdown device, flashing green light and red/amber light so that traditional green change interval can not ensure the intersection safety. In the paper, we propose the calculation of green change interval which ensure vehicles cross intersection safely through analysis drive behavior and speed of next two vehicles with green lights.Firstly, we research the calculation of green change interval in this paper. Combining with the motor engineering to calculate vehicle running condition and track to deduce the analyzing model, by calculating vehicle practical driving behavior and the corresponding speed to get the smallest calculation formula of change interval, and get the rational determination of change interval to ensure the safety of the vehicles between green time offsets in the intersection.Secondly, we will analysis the safety of intersection for green and red signal countdown device in this paper. It contains adjusting green change interval, impact to intersection safety of countdown time and analysis safety efficiency of signal countdown device installation. We can conclude that the set of green and red signal countdown device is dangerous to intersection safety and we should apply it carefully through investigation.Thirdly, we summarize the time of red/amber light which is suitable to China through investigation of delay time. In the paper, we ensure intersection safety by adopting green change interval, analysis safety efficiency of red/amber light and compare red/amber light with red signal countdown device. We can conclude that setting red/amber light is safer than setting red signal countdown device through comparing with red signal countdown device.Lastly, we research the intersection safety for vehicle flashing green light. We adopt green change interval to protect intersection safety and conclude that vehicle flashing green light will reduce intersection safety through investigation. Then we compare the vehicle flashing green light and green signal countdown device installation and conclude that the accident probability of setting flashing green light after green light is lower than green signal countdown device installation.
