Fractal Architecture Design Research

After presented in 1970's, fractal geometry has been widely applied in many scientific fields. However, the application of fractal geometry in architecture is still at a junior level, and it has attracted the attention of some architectural theoreticians and architects. The topic of this paper is just based on such a situation. By introducing the concept and extension of fractal geometry, the paper tries to quest for the probability and methods through which it translates into architecture, and with the history of fractal architecture and the perfect examples at present, summarizes the methods of fractal geometry design.Overview of the key problem or question:1) What is the basic connotation of fractal theory? What is the theoretical basis of fractal ideology and architectural development integration? (Ch.1 & Ch.2)2) What are the differences between fractal geometry and Euclidean geometry in the architectural creation process? (Ch.3)3) What is the history of the development of fractal geometry? What is the status of evolvement in architecture? (Ch.4)4) What is the basis concept and content of fractal architecture? What is the logistic form and aesthetic basis? (Ch.5)5) What are the world view and the aesthetic ideology? (Ch.6)6) What is the questions and foreground of development? (Ch.7)This paper's contents are mainly about fractal theory and fractal architecture. And they are not completely separated, however, they calculate the relationship between fractal and architecture, search after the application of fractal in architecture. Basing on the graphic analyse, the paper applies comparative taxonomy and summary induction, compares Euclidean geometry and fractal geometry, looks for the typical fractal examples and analyzes them. Finally, the paper reflects on the traditional aesthetic ideal and replaces it with fractal ideal, and then it discourses upon the influence that fractal geometry takes to the development of architecture in the world view and aesthetic ideal.
