Now, the HybridШ50th percentile dummy was adopted in the rule frontal test and CNCAP frontal test. This dummy was mainly used to measure the biomechanical response of peole in the frontal impact test. However, there are great differences in the anthropometric between the 50th percentile Chinese people and the HybridШ50th percentile dummy. So, it becomes a question that whether the auto designed according to the response of the HybridШ50th percentile dummy can protect the 50th percentile Chinese occupant well. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the necessity of developing the 50th percentile Chinese occupant dummy and dummy model by comparing the difference of the collision response between the 50th percentile Chinese occupant and HybridШ50th percentile dummy in the same or similar crash condition.Simulation method and test method were used in this study. In the simulation, the 50th percentile Chinese occupant dummy model was developed by using scaled method. In order to inverstigate the response differences of the models between different vehicles, the restraint systerms of minibus and saloon car were developed respectively. The frontal collision responses of different dummy models in deferent restraint systems were analyzed. In addition, the seat strength, the belt strength and the belt fixed position of restraint system model was changed to investigate their influence to the responses of different dummies. In the test, not only sled crash test with dummy but also with a volunteer, which may be the first time in China, were accomplished. The dynamic reponses and kinematics of the 50th percentile Chinese volunteer and HybridШ50th percentile dummy were compared. The results show that the response is obviously different between the 50th percentile Chinese occupant and HybridШ50th percentile dummy in the same or similar impact circumstances. The head and neck injury parameters of the 50th percentile Chinese occupant dummy model are obviously larger than those of HybridШ50th percentile dummy model, and the changes of the responses of these two dummy models are also different when the restraint system parameters changed. So, it is necessary to develop the 50th percentile Chinese occupant dummy and dummy model.
