With the arrival of China's aging population in urban areas, the phenomenon and question of the ageing society has appeared in many aspects in the city. Especially in big cities, the economy developing fast, the ageing population becomes faster and has a long peak period. Those characteristics are much more obvious. At present, China's aged cause seriously lags behind the development of economy and society. Many architecture and planning design for residential areas overlooked the changes in the structure of the population, lacked the consideration on the aged people's housing demand and deep research on the aged people'living conditions, which caused a lot of inconvenience both for older people's communication and living. It is Architects'duty to construct the environment and buildings that can accord with the aged people's behavior characteristics and can satisfy the aged people's physical and psychological needs.This paper based on the aging population background, start from the social investigation, apply the basic principles and the correlation theories of architecture and the old age study, analysis the problems which exists in the present Chinese elderly residential buildings. According to the older person's physiology and the psychological demands, we should start from the internal and external space environment of the old age housing, with a systematic analysis on the housing type, functional space design, detail design, outdoor activities, roads, barrier-free design, and other aspects for the aged people. We should consistently carry out the ideological that with the aged people as the centre, to reflect the concern for them. Through the researches on the housing design which is suitable for the aged people, this paper intends to provide some enlightenment for many coming housing designs and researches for them.
