The 10MW high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTR-10), as one of the most advanced reactors for use in the 21st century, was designed and constructed by the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) of Tsinghua University in China, and it has successfully reached full power level at the beginning of year 2003. And High Temperature Gas-Cooled Commercial Demonstrational Reactor (HTR-PM) is being programmed. The HTR-10 has the inherent safety feature of the HTR-Module reactor. On the basis of PRC Nuclear Security Laws and Regulations, every nuclear plant should be fitted out by special training simulator (Full-scope simulator). The field of High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor Full-scope Simulator is blank throughout the world. In this situation, the project of HTR full-scope simulator is set up by INET.Based on the investigation of the technological status and research trends of nuclear power plant simulators in the world, a 3D simulator system based on OpenGL for the HTR-10 was designed and developed, with the technology of the last nuclear power plant simulation and the idea of virtual reality (VR). It has user-friendly Man-Machine Interface, simulation of high accuracy and good expansibility.The accomplishment includes: 1: One 3D environment based on OpenGL is constructed, which have the functions of model drawing, coordinate transformation, lighting, texture mapping and response to user event, and in which user can wander, observe and interact with models by keyboard and mouse.2: A lot of 3D models of components o f reactor have been made. One virtual reactor is composed by these models imported by 3D engine, and show construction of rector and status of simulation visually. 3: Combination is achieved between calculation and 3D environment. The result of calculation is transferred to environment to be shown; the information of settings and orders is transferred to calculation to control calculating procedure and simulate a variety of conditions. 4: The development of auxiliary system. Auxiliary display system and data processing system are added in order to make up for shortcomings of 3D display of data and enhanced data analysis capabilities.This system is not only very helpful to the design, operation and training of the HTR-10, its construction method is also useful to the simulation system design of other types of nuclear power plants.
