This paper is based on the project- research of the construction of low-cost country roads, which is in charge of the communication department. By detailed survey, analysis of the survey, theory deduction and verification, the typical structure of flexible pavements are offered. And these typical structures are designed taking account of the characteristic of four western provinces (Chongqing,Sichuan,Xinjiang,Neimeng). The key parts of this paper is the selection of design factors which includes strength of subgrade, traffic volume and strength of materials .So how to define the scope of traffic volume of western country roads is the emphasis of this paper. The writer defines these scopes by detailed survey. And according to the two factor's influence on thickness of pavement structures, the strength and traffic volume are classified. By detailed survey and lots of experiments, strength of pavement materials and base materials are selected.Based on studies mentioned above, the typical structures which are designed for south-western regions (Chongqing and Sichuan) and north-western regions (Xinjiang and Neimeng) are illustrated. The results of this paper take account of climate characteristics and traffic characteristics of several regions, ensure the service capacity of pavements and lowers construction cost and maintenance cost. So the results of this paper can play a great role in the construction of western country roads.
