| Since 1960s, the appearance of wedge's like automobile has stabilized current automobiles'general form. The design of automobile form has grown gradually into mature. However, current automobile design shows blindness, excessive emphasis of individuality, and focus exorbitantly on form's modification, ignores human being's classical aesthetic discipline. Human possess the gift of understanding the things via the experience obtained by their own eyes. The way of understanding and creating beauty, and designing more and better product is only to master visual recognition's discipline. For achieving these, we need to research on visual perception. The dissertation utilizes visual perception's core elements– tension and manifestation, and related theory into the automobile design, analyzes current automobiles'form and the imago they are trying to express from the tension's point of view. The dissertation also bases on visual perception, combined with Gestalt psychology to annotate tension, manifestation, and their related conceptions. The dissertation sums up six methods of generating tension: proportion, wedge shape and its variations, inclination technique, distortion technique,"hang in the air"technique, and frequency flash technique.
