It is an important method in the equipment maintenance to monitor conditions of machines and analyze fault reasons with vibration signals. At present, most of monitoring softwares are based on C/S configuration, but it is very difficult to realize the online monitoring and fault diagnosis on Internet. With the development of the computer technology, on-site information can be shared remotely by the remote fault diagnosis software based on B/S configuration. Accordingly, remote experts' knowledge and experience can be used to solve complicated fault problems so that the diagnosis level can be improved greatly.Firstly, this paper introduces the importance of rotary machines in the national economic development, the developing state and trend of modern equipment fault diagnosis technology. And then the significance to develop the remote fault diagnosis system is set forth.In this paper, principles and identification characteristics of rotary machines' usual faults are described, and common fault diagnosis methods are generalized, including time domain, frequency domain and special analysis for rotors. Through analyzing aforesaid knowledge deeply, those faults are classified with the fault tree theory. And two different fault trees are built in consideration of the development of this system and customers' needs. According to those, the knowledge database, reasoning function and man-machine interface of the fault diagnosis subsystem based on rules are designed and developed.The network structure, technical characteristics of this system, and how to design and realize every module are detailed in this paper. Finally, with the diagnosis actual example, this fault diagnosis system has achieved the designing goal and can meet requirements of the remote fault diagnosis for rotary machines. Especially, the fault diagnosis subsystem working with all kinds of analysis modules can help customers diagnose conditions of the equipment quickly; affirm fault modes and reasons exactly.At present, the whole system's structure has been designed. The online monitoring module is used on the centrifugal compressor H101 in Yansan Petrol-Chemical Co. Ltd. At the same time, customers can also gain historical data to analyze contrastively, and forecast the future condition of the equipment with this system.
